The Zero Friction Tees are made from corn-based plastic. Since corn is harvested annually, no additional trees need to be felled, as would be the case with wood tees. The corn is broken down into small polylactide pellets, which then serve as the building blocks for the plastic in the tees.
By comparison, a white birch tree takes 60 to 70 years to grow, which could produce 40,000 wood teas. In the United States, 2.8 billion trees are felled annually for these and similar purposes.
Zero Friction tees are easier to degrade and recycle than conventional tees. However, they are more durable and long-lasting because they don't break as easily.
An average golfer uses about 7 wooden tees on 18 holes, while only one Zero Friction Tee is needed.
